About:
Ms. Cavuto’s second grade class at Theodore Roosevelt Elementary School is making a difference in their community this spring through a heartwarming pajama drive.
As part of their Reader’s Theatre project, the class read and performed “The Practically Perfect Pajamas” by Erik Brooks. Every second-grade class at Roosevelt brainstorms, plans, and implements a community service project related to the theme of their Reader’s Theatre book, and Ms. Cavuto’s students chose to help ensure every child can be warm and cozy at bedtime.
Working collaboratively with librarian Ms. McGee, music teacher Ms. Murphy, and art teacher Ms. Brustman, the class organized a pajama drive to benefit EJ’s PJs, an organization that provides new pajamas to children in need. Ms. McGee coordinated the effort, bringing together the students’ academic learning with meaningful community action.
The pajama drive launched on Jan. 12. Community members were invited to donate new pajamas at the school to support this student-led initiative. The class collected over fifty pairs of pajamas, which were picked up by EJ’s PJs last week.
Through this project, Ms. Cavuto’s second graders learned that even small acts of kindness can make a big impact on others’ lives.
