About:
Even during the offseason, the Westonka High School football team continues to make a positive impact in their community.
In February, Westonka football players visited Hilltop Primary School and Shirley Hills Primary School to celebrate I Love to Read Month, spending time with students in pre-kindergarten through fourth grade classrooms. During their visits, the student-athletes read stories aloud and connected with younger students, helping encourage a love of reading.
The visits created a special opportunity for the younger White Hawks to interact with high school role models while celebrating literacy. By sharing stories and engaging with the classrooms, the football players helped reinforce the message that reading is important for everyone.
Beyond promoting literacy, the experience also strengthened the connection between Westonka’s high school athletes and the district’s youngest students. The football players demonstrated leadership and community involvement, showing that being part of a team extends beyond the field.
Initiatives like this highlight how student-athletes can inspire younger students while giving back to their school community. Through their time and effort, the Westonka football team helped make I Love to Read Month a memorable experience for students across the district.
