About:
On March 2, Garden City High School hosted its annual Hoops for Hope fundraiser, featuring the high school and middle school Challenger basketball team.
The event was organized by GCHS student Katherine O’Hanlon in honor of GCHS student Bobby Menges, who passed away from cancer in 2017. All proceeds benefited the I’m Not Done Yet Foundation’s programs for adolescent and young adult cancer patients and survivors at NYU Langone—Long Island. O’Hanlon opened the afternoon by thanking supporters and recognizing the importance of the cause.
The gymnasium was filled with students, families, administrators, and community members from across Garden City, creating an atmosphere of excitement and energy. Posters created by Stewart and Stratford School students lined the walls, sharing messages of hope and encouragement.
On the court, the Challenger basketball team showcased competition, teamwork and outstanding sportsmanship. The halftime show featured performances by the Garden City spirit cheerleaders, varsity cheerleaders, varsity kickline dancers, and junior varsity kickline dancers, keeping the crowd energized. The event also included raffles, bake sales, themed baskets and interactive activities for students and families to enjoy.
The day proved to be a tremendous success, as Hoops for Hope once again brought the Garden City community together in support of a meaningful cause. The district thanks the many donors, sponsors, and community partners whose generosity helped make the event possible.
