About:
Students from the elementary schools teamed up with Longwood’s varsity football players for a special Little Lions Week, building connections between the district’s youngest and oldest students. Throughout the week, elementary classes participated in lively question-and-answer sessions with the high school athletes via Google Meet, giving younger students the chance to learn more about the team and what it means to be a student-athlete.
The week concluded with varsity players visiting classrooms at Charles E. Walters Elementary School, where they read stories, played games, and spent quality time with the students. The visits created meaningful moments of mentorship and encouragement for the younger Lions.
“Our program will always set the standard for what a student-athlete at Longwood High School should be,” said head coach Sean Kluber. “Giving back and volunteering is at the core of our football philosophy—developing individuals who seek to win on the football field and in the community. Wins and losses will always be important, but creating good people is just as important.”
Little Lions Week highlighted the powerful impact of mentorship across grade levels. Younger students had the opportunity to see what they can grow into, while the varsity players experienced firsthand the responsibility and pride that comes with being role models.
Thank you to Coach Kluber and the entire team for organizing this meaningful experience for our elementary students, and to Team Up 4 Community for helping highlight the program. Through initiatives like this, the Longwood Lions continue to show that leadership extends far beyond the field.
