Student-athletes from Wakefield Memorial High School are combining school spirit and community service as they prepare for their upcoming Salute to Service Game.
Members of the boys lacrosse team have launched a fundraiser to support the special event while also giving back to members of the United States military who are currently deployed overseas. The initiative includes a popcorn fundraiser, with 50 percent of proceeds going directly to supporting the team’s efforts and community outreach.
Funds raised will help cover the cost of special Salute to Service jerseys, important program needs, and the creation of care packages that will be sent to service members stationed overseas.
Later this season, players will work together to assemble and ship the care packages, giving the team an opportunity to personally participate in giving back and expressing appreciation for those serving the country.
Through this initiative, the student-athletes of Wakefield Memorial High School are demonstrating leadership and gratitude while using their athletic platform to support a meaningful cause.
The effort reflects the values of teamwork, service, and community engagement that athletics help instill, while also reminding service members abroad that their dedication and sacrifice are appreciated by the communities they protect.
