About:
Silver Lake Athletics took an important step to support student-athlete well-being by launching a new Morgan’s Message chapter, an initiative aimed at raising awareness of mental health in sports.
The effort was led by Laker soccer captain Avery DePaul, whose leadership and dedication helped bring the nationally recognized student-athlete mental health organization to Silver Lake. Through her work, Avery is helping to create opportunities for open conversations, education, and increased support for peers navigating the pressures of academics and athletics.
As part of the initiative, the Silver Lake field hockey team hosted the first of several planned “dedication games,” using competition as a platform to highlight the importance of mental wellness and encourage a culture of understanding and connection. These games serve as visible reminders that mental health matters and that student-athletes are not alone in their challenges.
Programs like Morgan’s Message continue to empower students to lead meaningful change within their schools. By taking action to promote awareness and reduce stigma, Silver Lake student-athletes are strengthening their community and demonstrating the powerful role sports can play in supporting overall wellness.
Through leadership, advocacy, and teamwork, the Lakers are showing that success is measured not only by performance on the field but also by the positive impact they make on the lives of others.
