About:
In October, Sleepy Hollow brought their community together for an important cause as the Horsemen Against Destructive Decisions (HADD) club helped launch Red Ribbon Week with a special Co-Occurring Disorders Awareness (CODA) Game during a Boys Varsity Football matchup.
The event focused on promoting mental health awareness and substance misuse prevention, using the visibility of athletics to educate and engage students, families, and fans. Supporters were encouraged to come out and show their Horsemen Pride while also learning more about the importance of making healthy choices and supporting peers.
Throughout the evening, attendees had access to informational resources, giveaways, and mocktails, helping create a welcoming and interactive environment centered around wellness and awareness. The initiative highlighted how student-led clubs and athletic programs can work together to address real challenges facing young people today.
By aligning the game with Red Ribbon Week, the HADD club and athletic department reinforced the national message of prevention, resilience, and positive decision-making. Events like the CODA Game provide valuable opportunities for open dialogue and education, helping to reduce stigma around mental health and substance misuse.
Through leadership, collaboration, and community engagement, Tarrytown student-athletes and student leaders continue to demonstrate how sports can serve as a powerful platform for advocacy and positive change beyond competition.
