About:
The Maine-Endwell school community recently came together to celebrate empowerment, inclusion, and opportunity during its annual Women in Sports Night, an event designed to inspire the next generation of female athletes.
Hosted by the Girls Varsity Club, the evening welcomed girls in grades K–6 to a fun-filled experience centered on the girls’ varsity basketball program. Young attendees had the opportunity to decorate posters, participate in a free-throw contest, win prizes, and cheer on the varsity athletes during their game. The first participants were even welcomed with free T-shirts, helping create an exciting and memorable atmosphere.
The Girls Varsity Club (GVC) plays an important role in supporting and highlighting female student-athletes across Maine-Endwell. The club is open to any female student who participates on a varsity athletic team, and students may join at any point throughout the year. GVC is dedicated to promoting the hard work female athletes demonstrate both in the classroom and in competition — whether on the court, field, pool, or track.
Beyond hosting Women in Sports Night, members of the club contribute to school spirit and community engagement by working concessions at varsity football games and participating in national initiatives that celebrate women in athletics. As a group, they continually develop new ideas and opportunities to recognize and uplift female athletes within their school community.
Events like Women in Sports Night highlight the powerful impact of mentorship, representation, and leadership in sports. Through their enthusiasm and commitment, Maine-Endwell’s Girls Varsity Club is helping inspire younger students while strengthening a culture that values inclusion, teamwork, and pride in female athletics.
