About:
Jordan High School Activities is using the power of athletics to raise awareness and support student well-being by partnering with the Nickel Open Fund to host Mental Health Awareness “Green Out” events during the winter sports season.
The initiative included special awareness nights at boys and girls basketball games on January 20, followed by a varsity and JV wrestling dual on January 30. Students, athletes, and community members were encouraged to wear green — the nationally recognized color for mental health awareness — to show support and help spark important conversations around emotional wellness.
As part of the effort, custom Green Out T-shirts were made available for purchase, with proceeds benefiting the Nickel Open Fund. The organization is dedicated to supporting mental health education, advocacy, and resources for students and families, making the partnership a meaningful way for the Jordan school community to contribute to a vital cause.
Events like these highlight the growing leadership role student-athletes are taking in promoting positive school culture and encouraging open dialogue about mental health. By using game nights as a platform for awareness, Jordan students helped create an environment where support, understanding, and connection were prioritized alongside competition.
Through collaboration with community partners and strong student participation, Jordan High School continues to demonstrate how athletic programs can make a lasting impact beyond the playing surface — helping to build a culture where seeking help is encouraged and every student feels supported.
