Students at W.T. Clarke Middle School in the East Meadow School District turned compassion into action on March 27, coming together for a meaningful initiative to help fight food insecurity across Long Island.
With the support of an $800 National Association of Secondary School Principals Student Service Grant, students worked collaboratively to prepare and pack 750 lunches for individuals and families in need — far surpassing their original goal. The effort was carried out in partnership with Rock CAN Roll, Inc., a nonprofit organization dedicated to combating hunger throughout the region.
Led by student grant recipient Kyle Kraus and members of the National Junior Honor Society, the event brought together students across multiple class periods, transforming the middle school cafeteria into a hub of teamwork, generosity and service. Several staff members and educators were also on hand throughout the morning, working alongside students; providing guidance and support to ensure the event’s success.
Throughout the event, students assembled meals with enthusiasm and care, demonstrating not only efficiency, but also a shared commitment to making a difference in their community. The energy in the room was both focused and uplifting, as students recognized the impact of their efforts on families facing food insecurity. The initiative provided students with a powerful, hands-on opportunity to give back while reinforcing the importance of leadership, empathy and civic responsibility. By the end of the morning, hundreds of meals were ready to be distributed. Each meal served as a symbol of care and compassion from the W.T. Clarke school community.
Through partnerships like this, W.T. Clarke Middle School continues to empower students to take meaningful action and make a positive impact beyond the classroom.
