About:
Students at Central Boulevard Elementary School in Bethpage put their creativity to work this month, crafting handmade postcards filled with uplifting messages and colorful illustrations for families visiting local food pantries.
The project was part of Thoughtful Thursday, a monthly schoolwide initiative in which all Central Boulevard students participate in a different community service activity each month. Past projects have included making Valentine’s Day cards for veterans, creating Thanksgiving placemats for senior centers and decorating grocery bags for the local King Kullen.
Before picking up their art supplies, students watched a short video explaining what a food pantry is and how it serves members of the community – giving them meaningful context for the kindness they were about to put on paper. The finished postcards will be distributed to families alongside their food pickups at The Rudman Family Food Pantry at the Mid Island Y JCC.
