More than 500 members of the Brentwood community gathered on April 18 for a breast cancer awareness walk that honored survivors, remembered loved ones and raised scholarship funds for local students.
This year’s walk was dedicated to the memory of Elizabeth “Lila” Marrero, a close friend of Board of Education President Eileen Felix and a well-known member of the community, who died on April 8 — adding a meaningful and reflective tone to the day’s events.
This inspiring event featured heartfelt remarks from three local survivors with deep ties to the community: Michael Landesberg, executive chef and partner at Jackson Hall Bar & Grill; Delia Melendez-Leon, Brentwood alumna and current high school math teacher; and Jessenia Mejia, a Brentwood parent and motivational speaker.
The event was made possible through the efforts of volunteers, sponsors and donors, whose contributions helped bring the community together for a day focused on awareness, remembrance and hope while funding critical student scholarships.
