About:
The Mount Sinai and Miller Place Middle School baseball communities recently demonstrated that sports are about far more than competition—they are about compassion, unity, and supporting one another during difficult times.
Before their recent matchup, both teams came together to honor Andrew Salgado and stand alongside the Miller Place community with a powerful display of respect and solidarity. Players from both programs gathered side by side, showing that even as competitors on the field, they are united as one community off of it.
The heartfelt moment served as a reminder of the positive impact athletics can have in bringing people together, especially during times of hardship. Through their actions, the student-athletes showed maturity, empathy, and the importance of supporting others when it matters most.
The event highlighted the values that school sports help teach beyond wins and losses—leadership, compassion, teamwork, and community connection. Coaches, teammates, families, and supporters all came together to demonstrate that no one faces difficult moments alone.
The Mount Sinai Booster Club shared the message “Communities Coming Together,” which perfectly captured the spirit of the evening as both teams honored Andrew Salgado with heavy hearts and unwavering support.
Initiatives and moments like this remind us that athletics have the power to strengthen communities, build lasting relationships, and help students learn the importance of standing beside one another both on and off the field.
The thoughts and support of both school communities remain with Andrew’s family, friends, teammates, and the entire Miller Place community.
