About:
The Goshen Girls Lacrosse program is making mental health awareness a priority through a series of impactful initiatives designed to support student wellness, encourage open conversations, and remind athletes they are never alone.
One of the highlights of the program was a special visit from Kelly Williams, NBA International Partner Services Lead and former collegiate athlete. Williams spoke with Goshen student-athletes during an engaging presentation and Q&A session focused on mental health in sports. Drawing from her own experiences as a college athlete, including overcoming multiple ACL injuries and navigating the challenges of collegiate athletics, she shared powerful lessons about resilience, balance, and self-care. Williams also provided mental health resources promoted by the NBA and shared a video emphasizing the importance of prioritizing emotional well-being.
The program also introduced free yoga and mindfulness sessions led by local instructor Kelly Kamm. Designed to help students manage stress during demanding academic periods, the sessions gave participants an opportunity to pause, reflect, and focus on their mental wellness. One session was held during the busy stretch between midterms and the holidays, with another planned for the end of May as students prepare for finals and end-of-year pressures.
In addition to workshops and wellness activities, Goshen student-athletes participated in a goal-setting initiative focused on athletic, academic, mental, and emotional growth. Participants created “My Goal Is…” cards that were displayed throughout the school hallways, serving as daily reminders that small, manageable goals can lead to meaningful progress and personal success.
The team also continued its commitment to mental health advocacy through Morgan’s Message dedication games. On May 1, Goshen Girls Lacrosse hosted its annual Morgan’s Message dedication game, with Varsity and JV softball dedication games scheduled for May 19. During the lacrosse event, club president Gwen Warland delivered a powerful presentation before the game, educating attendees about Morgan’s Message and the importance of prioritizing mental health among student-athletes.
The event also featured a resource table with informational handouts, giveaways, and donation opportunities through a QR code fundraiser. Team members proudly wore special Morgan’s Message shirts purchased through bake sale fundraising efforts, further demonstrating their commitment to raising awareness and supporting the cause.
Through education, mindfulness, advocacy, and student leadership, Goshen Girls Lacrosse is helping create a culture where mental health is openly discussed, supported, and prioritized both on and off the field.
