About:
Maggie McCormick of Bay Shore High School has embraced the power of community involvement throughout her high school journey, dedicating her time to mentoring younger students, supporting educational initiatives, and serving as a positive role model for others.
One of Maggie’s most impactful service experiences came this March when she participated in the Bay Shore Middle School STEAM Showcase. The event brought families together to explore hands-on activities designed to spark interest in Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Math. During the event, Maggie volunteered in the “Senses” classroom, helping children discover and learn about the senses of smell, sound, and touch through interactive experiences.
Maggie became involved in the event through her school’s National Honor Society, an organization that has provided her with numerous opportunities to give back to her community over the past two years. Through NHS, she has consistently demonstrated a commitment to supporting both students and educators alike.
In the spring of her junior year, Maggie also volunteered as an after-school Algebra 1 tutor, helping another student strengthen their understanding of the subject while supporting teachers during the busy Regents exam preparation season. The experience allowed her to build meaningful connections while making a direct impact on another student’s academic success.
Additionally, Maggie is actively involved in the school-run program “Athletes Helping Athletes,” which focuses on mentorship and peer leadership. Several times each year, members of the program visit the middle school to speak with seventh and eighth grade students about the challenges they have faced as student-athletes and the lessons they have learned while overcoming adversity. Through these honest conversations, Maggie has helped encourage younger students to navigate challenges with confidence, resilience, and positivity.
Through her dedication to service, mentorship, and leadership, Maggie continues to make a meaningful difference within the Bay Shore community while setting an inspiring example for younger generations.
