About:
North Rockland Athletics and Warwick Valley Athletics have done the Wounded Warrior Challenge for the past eleven years. Each year, both high schools compete on the junior varsity and varsity levels to raise money for the Wounded Warrior Project. Over the past eleven years, both schools have raised a total of $40,000. Each game that is played is worth a certain number of points and whoever wins the challenge leaves with the Wounded Warrior plaque to hang up in their school. A member of The Wounded Warrior Project also comes out and speaks with the players from both schools about their stories, how much of an impact WWP has had on their lives, and explains the importance of the contribution both schools have made to their lives.
The Wounded Warrior Project serves “post‑9/11 wounded, ill, and injured veterans, service members, and their families.” The WWP hits home for both districts as both were impacted by the many losses of members of the community on 9/11. This is something that our communities really enjoy coming out and supporting and something that our students have always enjoyed playing in. It’s a day of service and competition.
