About:
Malverne School District is celebrating another remarkable milestone in giving back. Through a year-long, student-led fundraising campaign, students at Maurice W. Downing Primary School raised $4,500 for Ronald McDonald House Long Island, bringing the school’s total contributions to more than $50,000 since beginning its partnership with the organization in 2017.
Led by the Student Council faculty advisers Amanda Correia and Katie Smyth, students in kindergarten through second grade participated in a variety of fun and meaningful fundraising activities throughout the school year. From seasonal holiday sales and classroom coin challenges to after-school paint classes and the ever-popular Ice Cream Fridays, each event encouraged students to work together while learning the importance of compassion, service and giving back to others.
The funds will support Ronald McDonald House Long Island’s mission of providing temporary housing, comfort and care for families with children receiving medical treatment, helping them remain close to their loved ones during challenging times.
The achievement reflects the values embraced throughout the Malverne School District and demonstrates that even its youngest learners can make a lasting difference. By working together in support of an important cause, students showed that kindness, generosity and teamwork can have a meaningful impact on the lives of others while inspiring a lifelong commitment to service.
