About:
Students from Lindenhurst High School’s ARMS Club — Academic Recycled Materials and Supplies — recently spent several hot and humid mornings giving their time to help local students prepare for the school year.
Led by high school teacher Mrs. Bottachiari, students worked together to sort and organize donated materials and assemble backpacks for children in need.
Mrs. Bottachiari started the ARMS Club nearly 20 years ago, and the initiative has continued to grow year after year. What began as one teacher’s effort to make a difference has developed into a longstanding service project supported by students and community partners.
For the past three years, Teachers Federal Credit Union has also helped support the initiative. This year alone, the credit union donated more than 200 backpacks and associated school supplies, giving ARMS Club members the materials needed to help even more students.
The project is a wonderful example of how sustained community service can grow over time and create a meaningful impact. By volunteering their mornings to prepare backpacks and supplies, Lindenhurst students are helping make sure their peers and younger students can begin the school year feeling prepared and supported.
