For the Sartell Sabres, athletics are about more than competition. This year, Sartell Football, Volleyball, and Boys Hockey are once again coming together to use their seasons as a platform to support the fight against cancer.
Through Tackle Cancer, Block Out Cancer, and Stick It to Cancer, Sartell student-athletes are helping raise awareness while bringing their school and community together around an important cause.
The effort continues a meaningful tradition at Sartell.
Last year, the Sartell Activities Office partnered with its football, volleyball, and boys hockey programs, along with community supporters St. Cloud Financial and St. Cloud Subaru, to host three cancer-awareness events throughout the school year.
The initiative included a Tackle Cancer football game, a cancer-awareness volleyball game, and a Stick It to Cancer boys hockey game. Student-athletes and supporters helped raise funds through merchandise sales, donations, special game-day activities, and community participation.
Proceeds from last year’s campaign supported the Randy Shaver Cancer Research and Community Fund and the TriUnity Foundation.
The football event also featured a creative way to get the entire community involved. Fans who wore pink received raffle tickets for the opportunity to participate in a halftime throwing competition, with prizes including Minnesota Vikings tickets, a PlayStation 5, and a 75-inch television. The goal was simple: encourage the community to fill the stands with pink while rallying together in support of families impacted by cancer.
Sartell also worked with Eric Perkins and St. Cloud Financial to create a promotional video that helped spread the campaign’s message throughout the community, including on social media, school monitors, and video boards at athletic events.
Now, Sartell’s student-athletes are continuing that commitment.
By bringing football, volleyball, and boys hockey together under one shared mission, the Sabres are demonstrating how school athletics can create an impact that extends far beyond the scoreboard.
