About:
Hampton Bays High School Leo Club members are helping to make a difference around the world by partnering with the local Lions Club for its annual eyeglass collection drive. Leo Club members are asking community members to clear out their drawers and cabinets and donate eyeglasses they no longer use.
Donations can be made from Oct. 13-27 to collection boxes created by Leo Club members at each of the district’s schools, as well as at M&T Bank, The UPS Store and the public library.
Once collected, the eyeglasses will be processed for reuse and brought by Lions Club volunteers to communities in developing countries. During service trips, Lions use specialized equipment to determine individuals’ vision needs and find donated glasses that provide the closest prescription match. For some recipients, the glasses provide their first opportunity to see clearly with corrective lenses.
