The High School East varsity baseball team showed support for a teammate and cancer awareness during a recent home game.
Player Joe Stopsky’s mother Linda is currently undergoing treatment for cervical cancer. To support the family and the cause, the HSE baseball players and coaches donned special shirts during an April game vs. Half Hollow Hills East. The HHHE players also showed their support by wearing alternate uniforms for the game. Linda Stopksy was present and honored before the game (pictured).
“These are the things that make a memorable and meaningful experience for students, parents, school staff, coaches and community members,” said Smithtown CSD Coordinator of Physical Education, Health, Athletics and Nurses Patrick Smith. “Coach Ken Klee and his players have a full understanding of the impact sports have and the life lessons kids acquire through athletics. Down the road, kids won’t remember the score of the game but they will remember the significance of it.”
Special thanks to Port Jefferson Sports for providing the T-shirts.
