About:
The 11th Annual Westchester vs. Rockland Challenge brought together 12 high school soccer teams—6 from each county—in an inspiring display of athleticism, community, and support for a cause bigger than the game itself. This event wasn’t just a soccer challenge; it was an opportunity for the athletes, their families, and their schools to come together in the fight against cancer.
Through the sale of over 350 event shirts, the teams successfully raised funds, with 100% of the proceeds being donated to the American Cancer Society (ACS). This fundraiser holds special significance, as it honors one of the players from Lakeland High School, a senior captain who was diagnosed with Hodgkin lymphoma in November. In a moment of celebration and resilience, this player rang the bell on May 28th, signifying the completion of treatment.
In recognition of his strength and courage, all the money raised through this year’s challenge is being donated to the American Cancer Society in his name. This event not only raised funds but also served as a powerful reminder of the importance of community, support, and perseverance in the face of adversity.
The Westchester vs. Rockland Challenge continues to showcase how sports can unite people for a greater cause, and we’re proud of the teams, families, and supporters who made this year’s event a success.
