About:

On Saturday, January 14th, Kellenberg Memorial High School’s wrestling team competed in the 12th Annual Ed Solosky Wrestling Tournament. The tournament is named after former Kellenberg athletic director, teacher, and coach, Ed Solosky, who passed away in 2011. Kellenberg hosted the meet and ended the day with a total of 18 place winners.

Seniors Nori Henry and James Perrotta, and juniors Noah Foster and Thomas Pasqua led the way for the Firebirds with first place finishes. As a team, Kellenberg accumulated the most points of any team to earn a first place finish out of the nine-team field.

Not only was this tournament a win for the Firebirds, but for the charities and organizations backed by Kellenberg. All of the proceeds from the tournament went to celebrate and raise awareness for Addie’s Army and the Katie McBride Foundation.
Addie’s Army raises money in order to support the families whose children are in the hospital or going through difficult times. The charity is named for Kellenberg English teacher, Mr. White’s daughter, Addison Rose White. Addison was born with severe complications from a brain injury and diagnosed with Hypoxic Ischemic Encephalopathy, which occurs when there is a decrease of oxygen or blood flow to the brain. Her condition requires round the clock nursing since Addie is on a ventilator and attends many therapies.

The Katie McBride Foundation was founded by the McBride family after they lost their daughter to cancer. They give help and support to families like theirs who have a child with a severe condition
This was yet another victory in the Firebirds’ very successful season. They hope to continue their success at the NSCHSAA League Tournament on February 5th, at Chaminade High School.
