About:
This year marked the 15th Annual Green Cup, featuring a series of games for participants ranging from 6-year-olds to high school players, both boys and girls, hailing from Marshfield and Duxbury.
The event included 7 youth hockey games, a 1st Responders game, a JV boys game, and finally, the varsity boys and girls games.
The players actively contributed by selling raffle tickets, serving as scorekeepers and referees for the games, and promoting the event.
Each year, the host team chooses a charitable cause to support. This year, the chosen beneficiary was Ellie Niland, a five-year-old from Marshfield battling Neuroblastoma, a cancer that has led to her paralysis and the need for a wheelchair. In response, the Marshfield community initiated a campaign to help Ellie’s family purchase a wheelchair-accessible van to simplify her transportation.
The Green Cup Games dedicated all proceeds to the Niland family to assist in acquiring the van. All 65 players participated, with 21 of them fulfilling referee roles (averaging 3 kids per game) and 14 players collaborating as scorekeepers. The remaining players joined forces to promote the event.
3/9/2024 : Ellie was up for a special visit from both MHS Girls& Boys teams. Thank you to the generosity of The Bog Arena, our Marshfield and Duxbury hockey families & communities at the Green Cup for their fundraising efforts in support of Ellie and her family.
