About:
Grandparents, parent, relatives and even neighbors were part of the second annual Miller Avenue School salute to veterans’ breakfast and parade on Nov. 8.
The uplifting event began with students gifting each honored guest the nationally recognized symbol of sacrifice for veterans, a paper red poppy. It was followed by a welcome from Principal Mrs. Claudia Smith, a tasty breakfast of bagels and muffins, and hugs and appreciation from students to their special guests.
Students in Alice Steinbrecher’s second grade class took to the gymnasium stage and sang a thank-you song to veterans, which was followed by patriotic music and student-crafted posters made for each of the branches of the U.S. military for the special event. Students and veterans paraded out the gymnasium door and paraded through the hallways to students, staff and invited guests waving flags while patriotic music played over the loudspeakers.
