About:
Lincoln Orens Middle School students did an outstanding job representing Island Park at the FIRST LEGO League robotics competition, held on Feb. 3 at Mineola High School. The group, dubbed Team Roboticus Maximus, won the Strategy and Innovation Award, qualified to go on to the Championship Tournament and ranked sixth out of 31 teams.
In addition to building and programming a robot, the Lincoln Orens students focused on the competition’s theme of hydrodynamics by investigating ways to ease the world’s water shortages. They developed a plan to raise money for two organizations dedicated to building wells and funding other essential water projects.
Congratulations to the team members, Fabiana Boncina, Erick Cisneros, Emmalee Egan, Emily Feil, Kirsten Lilly, Vittorio Panico, Cassidy Pena and Paige Perrone. They prepared for the event under the guidance of education technology specialist Christine Chu, discovery teacher Robert Ferrante, technology education teacher Chris Jahn and computer teacher Michael Giardino.
