About:
Adelphi University recently hosted its 4th Annual Ellen Kowalski Wheelchair Basketball Tournament, bringing together students, faculty, and community members for a meaningful event centered around inclusion, education, and community engagement.
Organized by adjunct faculty member Lisa Santos in collaboration with the Nassau Kings Wheelchair Basketball Club, the tournament continued to grow this year with its largest turnout to date. Members of the PE Majors Club played an important role in helping run the event, while faculty and students from across campus participated in creating an engaging and educational experience.
The tournament provided participants with an opportunity to learn through sport while gaining a deeper understanding of adapted physical education and inclusive athletics. Through teamwork, competition, and shared experiences, the event fostered connection and highlighted the importance of accessibility and inclusion within sports and education.
More than just a tournament, the event showcased how athletics can bring communities together, create meaningful learning opportunities, and strengthen understanding both on and off the court.
