About:
At the beginning of the season, we pick one home swim meet that we designate as our “Pink the Pool” meet. Usually towards the end of the season and in October to coincide with Breast Cancer awareness month. The girls were all given pink swim caps donated by Ad-Pro sports via ECMC. They took the caps to school and got them signed by teachers, classmates, friends, family for a $1 donation. They were given about 3 weeks to accomplish this.
The girls then wear the pink caps at the designated meet and decorate the pool in pink, hence, “Pink the Pool”. The girls also got the entire school on board as students and faculty all wore pink on the day of the meet and helped the girls collect donations during lunch. In the past, we have had the opposing team also participate, but unfortunately, they turned down the offer this year.
This event was started by the previous coach as she was diagnosed with breast cancer. She was one of the many strong women to beat the disease and is a proud survivor to this day. When I became head coach in 2014, I thought it was very important to carry on the tradition. This year was our 12th consecutive year running the event.
