About:
Daniel Fuentes attended ITHS where he was an avid wrestler. He enlisted in the Army in 2005 (3 months after he graduated). He would return for visits to the school when on leave from the Army. On April 6, 2007 (2 months into his deployment) in Baghdad, Iraq, 19 year old Daniel was killed by an improvised explosive device (IED). In 2007, immediately after Daniel’s death, the Fuentes family set up the Spc. Daniel Fuentes Memorial Scholarship to ensure that other Island Trees Bulldogs get the opportunity for a college education. These scholarships go to students who exemplify Daniel’s sense of honesty, loyalty, and courage. In 2017, the Fuentes family started the non-profit Daniel Fuentes Foundation to not only provide scholarships to Island Trees Seniors but to help support our active military, veterans and military K-9 friends. This foundation has donated wrestling apparel to Island Trees and sends care packages to soldiers and military K-9s.
Every year, ITHS hosts the Daniel Fuentes Dawg Pound Duals wrestling tournament to help raise money for this organization in honor of our fallen hero, Daniel. A true Bulldog in every sense of the word.
This is a very popular annual event that is advertised in our community as the date of the event approaches. The Wrestling Booster club leads the charge on fundraising along with the Daniel Fuentes Foundation.
We have 40 wrestlers and 4 teams compete in the tournament.
