About:
Arlington High School Athletics highlighted the lasting impact of student leadership and service through its annual Sports Carnival, a long-standing tradition led by the school’s Student Athletic Council that continues to bring energy, connection, and purpose to the community.
Planned, advertised, and fully run by Arlington High School student-athletes, the event featured approximately 20 fun, interactive sports activities for local elementary students. High school volunteers worked directly with the younger participants throughout the afternoon—guiding games, offering encouragement, and serving as positive role models in an upbeat, welcoming environment.
The Sports Carnival has been a signature Student Athletic Council initiative for many years, with council officers taking the lead in organizing, managing logistics, and overseeing on-site implementation. This year, the council included 33 student representatives—one from each varsity team. Officers dedicated approximately 14–16 hours each to planning and execution, while other members contributed about five hours apiece to support the event. The carnival also complements the athletic council’s ongoing volunteer reading program with Arlington’s elementary schools, further strengthening connections across grade levels.
Elementary students benefited from a high-energy winter activity that promoted movement, confidence, and meaningful interaction with older students they look up to. Attendance was strong, and the atmosphere was overwhelmingly positive for participants, families, and volunteers alike.
Beyond the fun, the event made a meaningful charitable impact. Donations collected during the carnival exceeded $500, with students selecting Sparrow’s Nest as the beneficiary. The local organization provides meals to families facing cancer diagnoses, extending the reach of the students’ service beyond the school community.
The Sports Carnival exemplifies the mission of education-based athletics at Arlington—using teamwork, leadership, and service to create experiences that matter. By investing their time and energy into supporting younger students and giving back to families in need, Arlington student-athletes once again demonstrated how athletics can lead with purpose and heart.
