About:
For our regular season Challenger games, students volunteer to be buddies to our players. They support them during warm-ups, cheer with them from the sidelines, and accompany any player who needs support out on the court. It’s open to anyone who is interested, but it usually ends up being students who are part of the Best Buddies Club, both here and at the Middle School.
The buddies who supported the athletes througout the season are:
HS:
Dan Curley
Kathryn McCoy
Keira Gewert
Sean Conway
Owen Conway
Caroline McCauley
Alessanda Bonomi
Eva Brandewiede
Caroline McAuley
MS:
Ellyana Maher
Ryan Hsieh
William Bremer
Paige Donahue
Braden Parker
Mason Gottsegen
For Hoops for Hope, I asked for volunteers from the boys and girls basketball teams to particpate as players in the intrasquad scrimmage.
The student-athletes who volunteered to play in that game are:
James Healy
Leo Vlogianitis
Kaitlyn Santopietro
Breanna Santopietro

“On Monday, March 6th, Garden City High School hosted the annual HOOPS FOR HOPE Challenger Basketball Game Kick-off. The fundraiser proceeds went to the “I’m Not Done Yet” Foundation started by the Menges family in honor of their son and Garden City Alumnus, Bobby Menges. All proceeds from the event were donated to the Cancer Center for Kids at NYU Langone-LI.The game featured an inter-team scrimmage with members of the Garden City High School Challenger Basketball game. Garden City student, Michael O’Hanlon, is one of the students involved in the coordination and promotion of the event. Michael started the afternoon off addressing the over 1600 spectators, players, administrators and volunteers in attendance to support the event . The Menges family joined Michael in kicking off the event and welcoming everyone. The game featured halftime performance by the kickline teams, and the varsity cheer team.” – https://gardencitynyathletics.com/2023/03/08/hoops-for-hope-success/
