About:
Students and student athletes throughout James Wilson Young Middle School in the Bayport-Blue Point School District recently put in extra care and effort to help ensure that individuals in need would be able to enjoy a safe and happy holiday this year.
Eighth-grade class club officers, with assistance from the seventh-grade class club officers, were able to collect enough toys for the Toys for Tots initiative to fill four large cardboard boxes to the brim. According to their website, the mission of the U. S. Marine Corps Reserve Toys for Tots Program is to collect new, unwrapped toys during October, November and December each year, and distribute those toys as holiday gifts to less fortunate children in the community in which the campaign is conducted.
Additionally, members of the National Junior Honor Society which includes student-athletes hosted a collection drive in order to provide less fortunate individuals with necessary toiletries. The students were able to collect almost 1,000 separate items, all of which were donated to the Patchogue Neighbors Inn.
