About:
On October 28th, the Bethlehem volleyball program came together for a cause greater than the game itself: the annual “Spike Out Cancer” match against Shaker High School. This inspiring event brought together athletes, families, and the community, raising both awareness and crucial funds for the American Cancer Society.
While the varsity team led the charge, “Spike Out Cancer” was a program-wide effort. Throughout the week leading up to the big game, varsity players sat outside the cafeteria during each lunch period, collecting donations from their peers and spreading the word about the importance of cancer research and support. Meanwhile, parents of players across all levels contributed generously by assembling beautiful gift baskets that were raffled off during the match, adding to the evening’s excitement and purpose.
On game day, every player from each team level proudly donned pink uniforms and carried posters honoring or remembering loved ones affected by cancer. The gym was filled with emotion, as the players demonstrated that the power of sports goes far beyond competition—it unites us in support of important causes.
Thanks to the collective effort of players, parents, and the Bethlehem community, over $1,000 was raised and donated to the American Cancer Society. The event was not only a reminder of the strength and generosity of the Bethlehem volleyball family but also a moving tribute to those impacted by cancer.
