About:
The Beacon High School varsity boys basketball team recently spent a meaningful day giving back to their school community during a literacy visit to South Avenue Elementary School.
During the visit, varsity players read books to younger students and took part in engaging question-and-answer sessions that allowed elementary students to learn more about sports, teamwork, and what it takes to succeed as a student-athlete. The interactive experience created a fun and inspiring environment where younger students could connect with positive role models from their own community.
The initiative, made possible through the support of Principal Amendola and the South Avenue staff, highlighted the important role high school athletes can play in promoting literacy, leadership, and mentorship. By sharing their time and enthusiasm, the Beacon players helped reinforce the value of reading while also building meaningful connections across grade levels.
Opportunities like this not only encourage academic growth but also help student-athletes develop confidence, communication skills, and a deeper sense of responsibility to give back. Through their participation, the Beacon boys basketball team demonstrated how teamwork and service can extend far beyond the court, leaving a lasting impact on the next generation of learners.
