About:

Our girls performed a community service project this AM. We met at 7am on Main Street and cleaned the streets and sidewalks of waste. Over 5 bags of waste picked up! So proud of our girls!

Coach Catie Oriani and I decided to bring back the yearly tradition of performing a community service event as we have done in the past. We have cleaned the sidewalks before, amongst painting poles in the newly built skate park at the City’s Memorial Park. In 2020, we ran a fundraiser during the pandemic to purchase and ultimately hand out gift cards to medical workers within our community. The medical workers chose between 7 local restaurants to receive their $40 gift card to. We were able to provide a gift card to 20 families as well as support local businesses when they needed it most. It was a win-win.
For this year, the girls met at one end of Main Street at 7am. We split up into two groups (two sides on the road), and had gloves, waste pickers, and garbage bags and proceeded to make our way down to the other end of Main Street and back again to make sure we didnt miss anything the first time. All in all, we cleaned over 2 miles of city sidewalks and roads and picked up over 5 bags of waste in the 3 hours it took us to perform the service project. The girls also received breakfast on the coaches for their hard work after we were done.
The girls had a great time being together, playing music, and taking turns with the different roles of helping within the groups. The community was very appreciative of our efforts, as we received compliments along our way. At the end of the day, Coach Oriani and I are proud of our girls for their effort of helping to clean up our community and for giving back. We have a great group of young ladies.
