About:
Students and staff at Berner Middle School in the Massapequa School District were in the giving spirit in the week leading up to Thanksgiving. They donated enough items to fill up a car during the annual holiday food drive sponsored by the Student Council.
On Nov. 17, members of the Student Council and representatives from each homeroom carried boxes and bags filled with nonperishable food items to health teacher Denise Robertson’s car, who then brought the items to the food pantry at St. Rose of Lima Church in Massapequa. The food will help local families throughout the holiday season.
“The school community came together to help others,” Ms. Robertson said. “We had outstanding participation and the generosity was overwhelming.”
