About:
Our team has been running a Breast Cancer Awareness night during our senior celebrations for a few years now. A couple years ago, we asked some of our senior group to explore some local organizations to donate to and came across a terrific organization To Life! in our town of Delmar. To Life! supports women and their families in their battle against breast cancer. Our boys order pink jerseys on their own to wear during the game. We raise money through donations and 50/50 raffles, all of which is donated to To Life! I am not sure our grand total yet from this years game, but in the past we’ve ranged from approximately $800-$1500. At halftime of our game we invite members of To Life! on the field to honor them with flowers for all they do for our community, which our senior captains give them.
This year, I have started an initiative to get my boys more involved with community service and decided to reach out to To Life! to see if there is even more we can do. A few weeks back, our senior boys made all of their breast cancer awareness pins (500!) for this organization, for the entire year. We will also be volunteering with them next weekend at our local farmers market, where To Life! will be hosting a rock/pumpkin painting event in honor of October being Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
We had 13 senior members participate in the pin making and the whole team, 24 overall, will volunteer for the farmer’s market event.
I’m very proud of my boys.
