About:
After the remnants of Hurricane Ida hit the northeast United States last week it brought devastating floods and destruction to some areas. One area in particular that was hit hard was Port Chester, NY.
After seeing the destruction and devastation in their area two football captains from Port Chester High School rose to action to help those in need. “There was devastation everywhere” Coach Halstead said. “The first day we started, last Friday we had 10 guys come after practice and pick up garbage, remove yard debris, and help in any way they could.”
The next day one of the football parents posted on Facebook asking for more help and the response was tremendous. On Saturday and the days following there were 22 players from the team cleaning up sludge, emptying garbage from peoples homes, picking up yard debris, cutting down sheetrock and helping to get cars off of people lawns.
The Football teams Moto is all about building character and these athletes truly showed what they were made of when their neighbors were in need.
In addition, they are are selflessly sharing their football field with a neighboring school whose field was flooded due to the Hurricane.
Coach Halstead said the guys keep asking everyday after practice what can we do to help. This will be an ongoing effort to help their community recover.
