About:
Freeport High School students and staff participated in their annual blood drive benefitting the New York Blood Centers. Throughout the school day, the high school’s gym had a steady flow of donors many of whom had donated before and several donating for the first time.
Sophomore Jaden Boccalino donated blood for the first time and said, “I was happy to donate blood and help out. It makes me feel good, and the snacks were great too.”
“I try my best to donate blood whenever possible,” said Freeport High School science teacher, Brian Snyder. “It helps save lives and having it here at the high school allows our students to learn more about the impact they can have on others in such a short amount of time.”
The annual blood drive helps reduce the deficit of blood donated and blood needed at hospitals and other medical facilities which is a chronic problem where donation levels are critically low.
