About:
The Brighton Boys Modified Basketball team recently demonstrated the true meaning of service by organizing a Day of Giving in honor of Martin Luther King Jr. Day, making a meaningful impact in the Rochester community.
Student-athletes came together to prepare and donate more than 120 lunches to the Open Door Mission, helping provide meals for individuals and families facing food insecurity. The initiative reflected Dr. King’s legacy of compassion and action, as players worked collaboratively to support those in need.
In addition to the prepared meals, extra supplies from the event were donated to the Brighton Food Cupboard, extending the reach of the team’s efforts and ensuring that additional community members could benefit from their service.
Through teamwork, leadership, and a shared sense of purpose, the Brighton players showed how athletics can serve as a platform for positive change. Their Day of Giving not only supported local organizations but also reinforced the importance of civic responsibility and community connection.
Service initiatives like this continue to highlight the powerful role student-athletes play in honoring important traditions while making a lasting difference beyond the court.
