About:
The Bucs community came together for a powerful and meaningful event honoring Austin, Carter, and the entire Vashaw Family, using athletics as a platform to raise awareness for pediatric brain cancer and mental health.
Through this special recognition, student-athletes, coaches, and school staff helped shine a light on issues that impact so many families, reinforcing the importance of compassion, understanding, and community support. The event served as a reminder that school athletics extend far beyond competition—creating space for education, empathy, and collective action.
Students played an important role in supporting the event and helping bring awareness to its purpose, demonstrating leadership both on and off the field. By honoring the Vashaw Family, the Bucs emphasized the power of coming together to support families, raise awareness, and encourage important conversations around health and well-being.
This initiative reflects the core values of the NYSPHSAA Community Service Challenge, highlighting how athletic programs can unite communities, support meaningful causes, and make a lasting impact through service and awareness.
