About:
Student-athletes from Varsity Boys Track & Field recently took their leadership beyond competition and into the classroom, making a meaningful impact in their local schools.
As shared by Chris Herrera, the team visited elementary schools to read to younger students, encouraging literacy while modeling what it means to be a positive role model in the community. These visits helped connect older student-athletes with youth “Goldbacks,” showing that leadership is built not only on the track, but also through service, mentorship, and example.
This initiative reflects a growing culture of care within school athletics—one where athletes are encouraged to give back, inspire others, and lead with purpose both in sports and in everyday life. By spending time reading and engaging with younger students, the Varsity Boys Track & Field team reinforced the importance of education, kindness, and community connection.
Moments like these demonstrate that the impact of athletics extends far beyond training and competition. They help build confidence in younger students while shaping student-athletes into well-rounded leaders who understand their responsibility to their community.
