About:
On Thursday afternoon, the Burr Intermediate School community once again demonstrated the true meaning of empathy and unity as students came together to support the ALS Ride for Life. The event, filled with emotion and inspiration, marked another chapter in a 25-year partnership between Burr and the ALS Foundation.
During a powerful assembly in the school auditorium, students welcomed special guests Dave Phillips, Jordan Tarozzi, and Commack’s own Desi Kessler—all of whom are courageously battling the effects of ALS. Each of them shared heartfelt messages of gratitude, moving the audience with their strength, resilience, and appreciation for the ongoing support.
In a particularly touching moment, Burr students joined together in song, performing the ALS Ride for Life anthem, filling the room with both hope and solidarity. The atmosphere reflected the very mission of the Ride for Life: raising awareness, offering support, and coming together as a community.
The students also presented a $5,000 donation to the ALS Foundation—funds they had worked tirelessly to raise over the past several months. Their efforts reflect a long-standing commitment to giving back and making a difference.
“Just like Ride for Life, Burr spends a lot of time focusing on the importance of community and how we are stronger and better off when we work together,” said Principal Dan Ciccone.
For a quarter of a century, Burr students have been walking beside the ALS Foundation—supporting, learning, and leading with heart. This year’s event was yet another example of how powerful young people can be when compassion meets action.
