About:
Blue Star Mothers of America’s Chapter 12 visited Mandalay Elementary School students in the Wantagh School District, who have been collecting Halloween candy and writing cards for veterans serving abroad. Patricia DelBello and Andrea Nordquest visited the school to personally thank members of the student council and adviser Angela Morgan for taking time to make the lives of military personnel deployed abroad a bit sweeter.
In commemoration of Veterans Day, student council members hosted the candy drive and students throughout the school crafted decorative cards with patriotic symbols and messages of thanks to the men and women protecting the nation’s freedoms.
While visiting with the Blue Star Mothers, the students learned the symbolism behind the organization’s banner, which hangs on a house window to indicate that a family member has been deployed.
“When you pass a house in Wantagh and see a banner in the window, you will know that someone from that family is protecting this nation,” Ms. DelBello said.
