About:
Building on the Freeport Public Schools districtwide culture of peace and caring, fifth grade students in Ms. Jennifer Ferrarelli and Ms. Jacqueline Rodriguez’s classes at the Caroline G. Atkinson Intermediate School hosted a toiletry drive for the month of January to be donated to the Interfaith Nutrition Network located in Hempstead.
The students collected a variety of items including baby wipes, diapers, infant formula, shampoo, toothbrushes and toothpaste, which were all donated by the students, staff and administrators at Atkinson.
On Jan. 31, the two classes gathered in the school’s cafeteria to sort the toiletries and created more than 100 individual bags for those in need. In addition, students wrote notes with motivational messages to include in each of the bags. The items were then donated to the INN.
The INN provides a broad variety of essential services to assist those challenged by hunger, homelessness and profound poverty.
