About:
To start we had 18 players help out the day of the clean up, but 22 took part in the project.
All from our varsity team.
We did a community service project/Team Fundraiser where 1/2 the profits went to the team and 1/2 went to a piece of equipment that will be donated by the lacrosse team for Webby’s beach.
We raised over $600.00 that we are in contact with Eddie Morris of Town of Brookhaven to figure out what we should use with that money raised. A bench, see-saw or something else for the playground.
So we went around to local businesses and asked for any kind of donation or gift card to help make 6 assorted baskets to be raffled off. We had over 20 local businesses help support our cause.
We then spent 45 minutes at each site with 20 people (including 2 coaches) cleaning up Kalers Pond & Webby’s beach. We had garbage bags, pokers, gloves and more. We removed garbage, tires, debris and other items from the area.
It was a great team bonding activity and also a big character builder for our team to give back to the community that’s done so much for us over the years.
We just did the drawing for the winners yesterday and it was a huge success. 6 lucky winners were randomly chosen.
