About:
The boys’ cross country team has been informally and loosley been involved with working with Lazarus house https://lazarushouse.org/) since the late 1980’s.
In 2007 we began to make this relationship more formal. In the beginning the team would participate in the Thanksgiving Food Deliveries that Lazarus House would run on the Tuesday/Wednesday before Thanksgiving.
About 10 years ago our efforts were redirected and on the Monday of Thanksgiving week the boys would spend between 2 and 3 hours working on various tasks needed by Lazarus House (food pantry organization, Christmas decorating, cooking/baking, yard and interior cleanups, just to name a few).
The boys also have multiple “pasta dinners” throughout the season. These dinners are sponsored by the boys’ parents. Instead of the boys contributing to the dinner (i.e. pot-luck style or cash contribution) they collect money at the dinner (that they would have spent helping out) and that money is pooled together and presented to Lazarus House at the end of the season (approximately 200 – 300 annually).
This year the boys wanted to add something different and initiated a clothes drive for Lazarus House. They included the girls’ team and the school community as well as our competitor for that day (Methuen HS). The boys are planning on continuing their normal contributions as well.
