About:
Southwest Christian Richfield Boys Hockey demonstrated that the game extended far beyond wins and losses by participating in multiple community-focused initiatives during the holiday season, using hockey as a platform to give back.
The program partnered with CHS Boys Hockey for a special Game Night Toy Drive that brought the community together for a meaningful cause. Fans were encouraged to donate an unwrapped toy valued at $15 or more in place of admission, helping support children and families during the holidays. Student-athletes played an active role in promoting the drive and welcoming fans, creating an atmosphere rooted in generosity, teamwork, and holiday spirit both on and off the ice. The collaboration highlighted how athletics can unite communities and inspire giving.
In addition to the toy drive, Southwest Christian Boys Hockey also took part in a Military Appreciation Night in partnership with Chaska Boys Hockey. Chaska hosted the home game and led the organization of the initiative, including coordinating donation boxes and recipient organizations. After seeing the impact of the effort during the game against Southwest Christian Richfield, the teams worked together to expand participation. Southwest Christian families responded with strong support, with at least ten families confirmed to have donated toys or made monetary contributions, and additional participation observed throughout the evening.
All toy donations were delivered to Chaska Santa, while monetary donations were sent directly through Chaska Santa’s Venmo account. While exact totals specific to the hockey game were not available, the collective effort contributed to a larger, community-wide impact driven by Chaska Santa throughout the season.
Together, these initiatives served as powerful examples of how high school hockey can positively impact communities—honoring service members, supporting families in need, and spreading joy during the holiday season.
