About:
The Center Moriches High School Fishing Club completed its clothing drive on December 1st with a total of 847 pounds of donatable items. Community, students and staff members took part in this event where we could donate everything from Old clothing to drapes and bed wear. We filled up two SUV’s (one pickup and a SUV actually) and delivered it to SAVERS via FundDrive (the company we used to do this) in Yaphank where the items will be sorted and then put into their stores for distribution.
The photo attached is our Vice President Bianca Butta who was very much involved with the drive.
The fishing club is geared towards learning about the sport of fishing, particularly on Long Island. We currently are leaders in the Long Island High School fishing league (sponsored by Captree Fishing Station) and have gone on various trips to teach new and even experienced anglers about fishing on both the north and south shores. We have various guest speakers from all over come in to discuss specific topics such as surf fishing, bait and tackle methods that work well with what species. Besides the guest speakers we also plan on visiting Steiger craft boats in Bellport this winter as well and visit the Ward Melville Fishing Expo in March.
The club currently has 78 students involved, with more joining each week. Students in the club were tasked in asking to donate gently used clothing items as well as bed wear, curtains and coats. Unfortunately we did not individualize who brought in what since this group is pretty much a tight knit group and rather attacked the job as one. But for the most part more than half of them donated something towards the cause.
