About:
Griffin’s Guardians is honored that the CNS Boys Ice Hockey team will host the upcoming “Going Gold” event with the Immaculate Heart Central Boys Hockey team on Thursday, February 11th at 7:45pm. The event will be held at the MACC in Cicero, NY. The two teams will come together to raise awareness for Pediatric Cancer.
Griffin’s Guardians was created by the Engle family in honor of their son Griffin Engle. Griffin was an avid hockey fan and player with Midstate Hockey. Griffin was diagnosed with brain cancer and passed away at the age of 7.
Griffin’s Guardians is a recognized nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization that provides support and financial assistance to children battling cancer in 17 counties in Central New York. We work hand in hand with Upstate Golisano Children’s Hospital to stay up to date on what the patients’ and families’ current needs are. In addition, we strive to bring awareness to Pediatric Cancer and to provide financial aid for funding Pediatric Cancer Research.
During the game, spectators will notice the #13 on each players chest, as that was Griffin’s favorite number. The Engle’s believe if Pediatric Cancer hadn’t taken their son, you would have seen him skating with this CNS team today!
The players will be skating for the children like Griffin who have passed away, for those who are currently battling cancer and for those to yet be diagnosed! For the event, both teams have traded in their school jerseys and will be wearing custom hockey jerseys. The CNS team will be wearing GOLD jerseys to represent Pediatric Cancer and IHC will be wearing RED jerseys to represent Griffin’s Guardians. The Engle family will have a ceremonial puck drop with both teams at the start of the game.
The Griffin’s Guardians “Going Gold” program is still fairly new but with the help from these two teams, the hope is to make this an annual event. Griffin’s Guardians will have a table set up with merchandise, baked goods and raffle baskets. This “Going Gold” event will be an evening where the community comes together for one cause, to spread awareness for Pediatric Cancer!
